Ep 01: Georgia Harper LIVE in-conversation with Lauren Keegan
Join me and fellow psychologist and author Georgia Harper as we talk about all things writing & psychology online on Tuesday 12th November at 7pm AEDT.
Tomorrow marks 4 weeks since my book All the Bees in the Hollows was released in Australia/ New Zealand. It has been a whirlwind and so lovely to see my book find readers. Switching between book publicity, parenting and then wearing my clinical hat in my day-job has been, at times, intense. Not to mention I will soon be heading into edits with my second book, and, at some point I’d like to get started on my third.
So, I’m very much looking forward to sitting down with psychologist and debut author Georgia Harper to find out how she managed a professional day job & writing a book.
Trust the Process with Author & Psychologist Georgia Harper
Georgia Harper is a psychologist who has worked with both serious violent offenders and victim-survivors of crime. Her debut crime thriller What I Would Do To You was published by Penguin this year.
A near-future Australia.
The death penalty is back. But if the victim’s family wants the perpetrator to die, they have to do it themselves. Twenty-four hours alone in a room with the condemned. No cameras. No microphones. Just whatever punishment they decide befits the crime.
Ten-year-old Lucy was murdered.
Through counselling sessions with their court-appointed psychologist, we learn the stories of her family members: Lucy’s two mothers – Stella and Matisse – her much older brother and her bookish teenage sister, who is too young to participate in the execution, but who has plans of her own . . .
Secrets and grief threaten to break the family.
As the execution date nears, already-struggling Stella remains adamant that she must carry out the punishment. But it becomes clear that if she steps into that room, the family may lose her too.
Join us on Tuesday 12th November at 7pm AEDT via zoom.
There are loads of podcasts out there on books and writing, and while I may venture down that track at some point, I’ve decided to have this conversation with a live audience to encourage a sense of community and have the opportunity to ask Georgia in real-time your most pressing questions.
Interested in writing? Psychology? Both?! Then this is for you. Come with your questions…
Like how someone can be so bright & bubbly when they work with offenders & victims of horrific crimes?
Or why Georgia’s idea of escapism from her work was to create an equally dark world in her book.
I want to know how a psych degree helps her build character profiles & how she manages a public profile with a professional job + more…
The event is free but you must register at the eventbrite link to receive the zoom link.

Thanks again, Lauren and Georgia, for a fascinating discussion. The premise of the book is superb - no wonder you had a bidding war! And it definitely sounds like a twisty read with huge moral and ethical questions - which I love. I was also interested in the questions about professional boundaries and the strategies you used to allow your protagonist to be both authentic/believable but, occasionally, overstepping. I will put your books on my TBR list, though it's so long ATM, I'm a bit overwhelmed! I'm looking forward to the next episode. Thanks again. Diane
